Major General George A. Lynch
c/o War Department
Washington, D. C.

Dear General:

I have had the honor of interviewing Assistant Secretary of War Patterson, Q. M. General Gregory, Gen. Lawes, Col. Van Ness Ingram, Col. "Skip" Johnson, Col. Robbins, Col. Howie, Gen. McAuliffe, Col. Oseth, Col. Claybrook and many others while doing research work, gathering information for a series of articles I am writing about the "Jeep". All have been most courteous and helpful.

A story on the pioneering and development of the "Jeep" would not be complete without your personal recollections about it. You were an important factor in the development of the "Jeep", which has now become the emblem of our Army and the outstanding motor vehicle achievement of the War.

As a former Army man, it would afford me great pleasure to interview you personally, regardless of where you are located, were this possible. May I request you to send me your story of what you personally had to do with the development of the "Jeep", beginning back at the time you conceived the idea of developing a motor vehicle for the armed forces to convey machine guns, extra ammunition, etc, to the front lines instead of by mule-back and man-power and to serve as a general all-purpose reconnaissance car.

Kindly include testing of early models and your present address.

See attached copy of letter authorizing me to write to you.

Thanking you for your assistance, I am

Very sincerely yours,

A. Wade Wells
