My dear Mr. Payne:

I must confess myself annoyed with your attitude.  My stories have certainly been a help to your company.  I don't give a damn about that but I do care about the labor and military efficiency angles.  But why you should take it upon yourself to give me a bawling out I don't know.  Where I get my information is my business; if it’s incorrect that's a different matter.  I've been a newspaperman since I was 14 and I have never knowingly done any man, no matter what I thought of him, an injustice.  I'm willing to make corrections when I'm wrong, but I don't reveal my sources and I think its about time you woke up to the fact that you're not the only Bantam representative in these parts.

      Sincerely yours,

       I.F. Stone
